Thompson to Deliver Remarks at Homeland Security Forum in Jackson on the Security of Places of Worship
(WASHINGTON) – Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 13th, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, will deliver remarks at the first public meeting of the Homeland Security Advisory Council’s Prevention of Targeted Violence Against Faith-Based Communities Subcommittee in Jackson, Mississippi. Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan will also deliver remarks.
The meeting will include remarks from the leaders of the HSAC and will also include panel discussions with local law enforcement and local religious leaders.

The Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) leverages the experience, expertise, and national and global connections of its members to provide DHS independent advice to support decision-making across the spectrum of homeland security operations.
The subcommittee was recently stood up by the Secretary on the bipartisan recommendation of Chairman Thompson and Ranking Member Mike Rogers in light of recent attacks against synagogues, churches, temples and mosques. The HSAC Subcommittee will provide findings and recommendations that will assist DHS in helping secure faith-based organizations across the country from the threat posed by domestic terrorism and violent extremism.
